SCU Lightning Complex Fire Declared Emergency under MHCF Disaster Relief FundEffective August 25 the Morgan Hill Community Foundation (MHCF) has identified the SCU Lightning Complex Fire as an Emergency under the MHCF’s Disaster Relief Fund. Concerned citizens can go to https://www.morganhillcf.org/donate-to-the-disaster-relief-fund.html to donate to the Disaster Relief Fund. All donations made to the MHCF Disaster Relief Fund will be used to directly support nonprofit organizations in the greater Morgan Hill area. Local nonprofits who are either mobilizing their efforts in support of the SCU Lighting Complex Fire or continuing their efforts in support of COVID-19 are encouraged to apply for a MHCF Disaster Relief Grant . “As challenging as 2020 has been the generosity of our neighbors and the swiftness of our local nonprofit community has been nothing short of amazing. The selfless giving of their time and treasure has been the beacon that continues to inspire me and the entire board of the Morgan Hill Community Foundation to do all we can to get needed resources into our community just as quickly as possible.” says Board Member Pamala Meador. To date the Disaster Relief Fund has completed 2 grant cycles with a third round of grant applications staged for review within the next 2 weeks. Since the inception of the fund (formed on April 11, 2020). Over $28,000 has been granted to our local nonprofit organizations. Grants have been provided in support of providing meals to the community, rent assistance, and social services to vulnerable populations. “Our intent to develop a Disaster Relief Fund was to provide our community a central collection point to quickly mobilize donations and distribute funds and other relief to vetted local non-profits supporting disaster relief efforts. We would have never imagined that within the first year of establishing the fund our community would be encountering 2 significant and life altering emergencies. This effort along with the COVID-19 Essential Child Care Workers Program that we partnered with the MHUSD and the YMCA (providing over $34,000 to offset tuition costs) serves as a testament to our communities willingness and active engagement to support those of need during times of great uncertainty.” Says Nick Gaich Board President. The Morgan Hill Community Foundations website also contain links to other nonprofits such as the Firefighters Benevolent Fund and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation Santa Clara and San Mateo Fire Relief Fund to assist citizens that are interested in donation to those organizations .
